Jazz and Country guitarist from Liverpool, England, considered amongst the best jazz guitarists in the country.
He played in country music bands at the age of 12. He had a spell in the USA, drawing approving attention in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Potter also drew inspiration from early rock ‘n’ roll before becoming interested in jazz, and especially the playing of Django Reinhardt.
His outspoken admirers have included many fellow guitarists, including George Harrison & Chet Atkins.
By the 90s, Potter was best known for his jazz work and in 1994 came second in the guitar section of the British Jazz Awards. He also appeared in the television documentary, The Django Legacy (1999).
In addition to performing, Potter also composes and arranges music and he teaches internationally.
