The 5 Pentatonic Shapes | In Pairs

In this course, we will learn how to play the pentatonic scale across the entire neck.

This task can be quite daunting so we will be breaking it down into pairs of neighbouring shapes, allowing us to visualise the neck piece by piece.

The key of Em Pentatonic falls nicely on the neck such that the first pattern is in the Open Position. We will begin by pairing it with Pattern 2, taking us up to the 5th fret. Then, after grouping Patterns 3 & 4, we will have reached the 10th fret. Finally, we’ll pair Pattern 5 and Pattern 1 at the 12th fret, where the entire system then repeats up the neck.
